Czarna Lufa. A filter coffee from Ethiopia.

2 min read

Czarna Lufa is an arabica from Kaffa in Ethiopia. The bean description lists Acaia and Yellow Catuai and an altitude of 1650–2000 metres. A medium roast accompanies citrus, floral and dark chocolate notes. Start with a paper-filter brew without milk to compare aroma and flavour as you drink. Try it again after a few minutes as it cools; avoid judging the whole cup from the first hot sip.

Filter: 15 g coffee / 250 ml water, 92–94 °C, 2:30–3:00 min. These are starting points, not batch-tested recipes. For a bean-to-cup machine, start with the manufacturer’s instructions. Change one setting at a time and compare the taste.

Taste again as the coffee cools. Record the dose, water and time so you can repeat a cup you enjoy. If it is too astringent, try a coarser grind; if watery, check the ratio first. Change just one setting to make the comparison useful. Different brewers give different results, so use the numbers as a starting point. Water matters too: use fresh drinking water without an obvious unwanted smell.

A large fish occupies much of the Czarna Lufa illustration. Above it is a clock, nearby are figures, with more details between them. Start with the fish and return to it after travelling around the label. A coffee break beside this bag has one more activity: looking. The brewer stands nearby and the cup waits. The picture stays on the table without asking you to decide immediately what everything means.
